Philippine politics can be messy, but it doesn’t have to be bloody.

Marinduque Rep. Lord Velasco is fuming over the violent death of Ako Bicol Rep. Rodel Batocabe, who was gunned down after a gift-giving event in Daraga, Albay.

In an Instagram post, Velasco shared photos of him with Batocabe at work and at play.

He said politics should not be violent, but should be about competing on who can provide the best service to the people, who has the biggest heart, and who loves his country and puts his constituents first.

He said he was in shock about the fate that befell Batocabe. His death is a big loss as the country lost a passionate official, he added.

He salutes Batocabe even in death and offered his prayer and condolences to his family.

Like many, he yearns for justice for his friend.

“Politics shouldn’t be like this!!!???It should be a competition of who can give the best service to their constituents, about who has the biggest heart, about who truly loves his country and would put his constituents/country’s welfare before his! I am still in shock in hearing the news that a colleague and a good friend was ambushed this afternoon while doing his rounds of gift-giving in his barangays.

We have lost a person who is really passionate in his pursuit in making this country a great place to live in. Bro i salute you! To your family, i join you in this time of sadness and can only offer prayers??that he may rest in peace and that justice be served on whoever commited this cowardly act!!!! My deepest sympathies?,” Velasco posted on Instagram.
