The Palawan Capitol said that farmers who used hybrid rice seeds from the provincial government increased their production.

Those farmers were beneficiaries of the hybrid rice commercialization of the Palawan Provincial Governnent.

“Sa ilalim ng programang Productivity Rice Enhancement Development (PRED) na itinataguyod ng Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), mayroong naitalang pagtaas sa ani/produksyon ng walumpu’t-apat (84) na mga magsasakang tumanggap ng tulong-pautang mula sa Pamahalaang Panlalawigan na pangunahing gamit ang hybrid rice seeds na meztiso 20,” said the provincial government.

The province said that that the last wet season – from March 16 to September 15 – had an average yield of 5.07 metric tons per hectare, higher than the 3.5 metric tons per hectare average yield.

“During the first wet season ‘yun ‘yung March 16 to September 15 planting ay mayroon na tayong nabigyan na 200 farmers,” said program focal person Ma. Mayla O. Rebusada.

“Yung inbreed (certified seeds) nasa 70 cavans per hectare pero ngayong gumamit sila ng hybrid seeds nadagdagan ng 30 cavans ‘yung kanilang ani kasi 100 cavans na yan,” Rebusada added.

The first batch of beneficiaries came from towns of Narra, Aborlan, Bataraza, Brookes Point, Rizal, Quezon, Roxas and Sofronio Espanola.

The province said that there are new 200 farmer beneficiaries this dry season.

“Ang programang Productivity Rice Enhancement Development ay nakatuon sa pagpapahiram ng mga kinakailangang farming inputs sa mga magsasaka na kinabibilangan ng kumpletong abono at hybrid rice seeds,” said the provincial government.
