Palawan provincial board to barangays: Improve your waste management

0 588

The Palawan provincial council has passed a resolution mandating barangays in the province to improve their waste management.

Board Member Clarito Demaala IV, author of the resolution, said that garbage continue to pile up due to the growing population, modernization and influx of tourists in the province.

The said resolution is pursuant to the Republic Act 9003 o Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, which mandates barangays to teach proper waste waste segregation.

Board Member Demaala said that the resolution he authored will remind barangay officials of their mandates under the law.

“Through this resolution, [barangay officials] are reminded that they need to inform their citizens na magkaroon talaga po ng proper segregation kasi po ang iba po, just to comply lang, pag may bisita, andun lang, magkahiwalay. Pero pag umalis na yung magva-validate, back to old [ways] po sila,” he said.

So I’m requesting all LGUs, especially their barangays, na isapuso nila yung Material Recovery Facilities nila kasi po pag hindi nila ginawa, magiging display lang ang nilagay nilang mga gamit po doon.”
