Catanduanes Rep. Sarmiento seeks road safety education in schools to produce responsible road users
Catanduanes Rep. Cesar Sarmiento has filed a bill that seeks to have a road safety education in schools.
Sarmiento, chairman of the House transportation committee, filed the House Bill No. 7915 or the proposed National Road Safety Awareness Act.
The bill aims, among others, to produce responsible road users in the future.
“Cong Cesar filed House Bill No. 7915 or the National Road Safety Awareness Act that will mandate road safety education in schools to produce the next generation of responsible road users,” the office said.
“This bill will also mandate the commemoration of victims and survivors of tragedies and enable them to share their stories and advocate for road safety,” it added.
The measure also mandates the Transportation department, Land Transportation Office and the local governments to submit annual reports on what they have done to improve the road safety situation in their respective jurisdictions.
The solon said in the explanatory note of the bill that the “positive impact of this strategy is supported by various international research studies.”
He added that road safety must be the society’s norm and it must be inculcated in the hearts and minds of the Filipinos.
“Our risk culture should be reformed! Road safety should be the norm of the society,” he said.
