Hindi lang weeklong! Naga City kicks off Persons with Disability Month
The Naga City has dedicated the whole month of July for persons with disability (PWDs) as the city prepared “various activities that will help to uplift their lives.”
The city previously celebrated PWD week, but the Sangguniang Panlungsod has enacted the Ordinance No. 2018-028, which declared the month of July as Persons with Disability Month.
“The measure is in conformity with Proclamation No. 361 issues by then President Joseph Estrada, which proclaimed every third week of July as the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week,” the city said
Councilor Elmer Baldemoro said that they decided to extend the celebration to promote the welfare of the PWD sector in the city.
“We decided to extend the weeklong national celebration into a whole month of activities that are fun-filled and productive to be able to promote well the things that can help improve the quality of life of the members of the sector,” Baldemoro, who sponsored the ordinance, was quoted as saying.
The month-long celebration started last July 1 with the advocacy walk that kicked off from Naga Metropolitan Cathedral to Plaza Rizal, followed by the conduct of Paralympics at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary on July 2.
Meanwhile, a three-day training on financial literacy has been conducted at the Function Hall of the City Health Office, which started last July 3.
A job fair is also slated at SM City Naga on July 7.
