Governor Alvarez leads Baragatan sa Palawan Festival 2018 opening ceremony

The Baragatan sa Palawan Festival 2018 has officially kick started yesterday, June 1, held at the Capitol Pavilion.

Palawan Governor Jose Chavez Alvarez led the opening, where he emphasized during his speech the goal of his administration to solve the poverty issues in the province.

“Objective naming dalawa [ni Bise Gobernador Socrates] ang tulungan ang mahihirap,” Gov. Alvarez waa quoted as saying.

He also thanked the national government for the help it extended to Palawan.

“Hindi namin sasayangin ang tiwala na ibinigay sa amin ng mga national agencies lalong-lalo na ang ating national government na kung ano ang hinihingi namin para sa Palawan ay hindi po kami nahihirapan,” he said.

Present during the event were Ilocos Norte Governor Imee R. Marcos, Department of Tourism-MIMAROPA Regional Director Ma. Luisa S. Diploma and Department of Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Agribusiness Dr. Andrew B. Villacorta.

For her part, Governor Marcos said that Ilocos Norte and Palawan share the same goal of bringing the poverty rate lower.

“This is the goal for Palawan and indeed Ilocos Norte that we produce firstly a livable home for each and every one of our citizens, a sustainable environment that is sustainable economically as well as ecologically; and finally that we come together as a resilient people, a society that is able through social thrust and confidence to confront any disaster that climate change may bring upon the western front of the Philippines,” said Marcos.

Meanwhile, other activities slated for the two-week festival are Mutya ng Palawan, Saraotan sa Dalan or streetdancing competition, other sports activities such as frisbee anf boxing tournament,

“Noong ika-8 ng Hunyo ay nauna nang binuksan sa publiko ang LGU Agro Trade Fair, Barakalan sa Baragatan, Halamanan sa Baragatan at ang Caraenan sa Baragatan na isinabay sa isinagawang soft opening ng pagdiriwang,” the province said.

“Ang selebrasyon ng Baragatan sa Palawan Festival 2018 ay bilang paggunita sa ika-116 na taong anibersaryo ng pagkakatatag ng gobyerno sibil ng Palawan,” it added.
