Perfect destination! Albay concludes month-long celebration of Magayon Festival
The Magayon Festival proved anew that the province of Albay is the “perfect desstination” especially in the month of May.
The month-long Magayon Festival culminated last May 31 where thousands of guests gathered at the Peñaranda Park.
“Thousands of people flocked to the Penarand Park for the last night of Magayon Festival 2018,” the provincial government said.
“Despite the rains, the crowd was tightly packed near and around the Magayon Food and Beer Plaza especially near the stage, where the band Silent Sanctuary played amid scream and cheers from delighted Albayanos!,” it added.
A lot of activities were lined up for the 19th iteration of Magayon Festival this year, including the Daragang Magayon 2018 pageant, Magayon Festival Trade Fair, a live band concert, and a lot more.
“The culminating acitivty for the month long celebration, Magayon Festival was a roaring success, with a plethora of events and fun-filled activities,” said the province.
“Truly Albay is the #perfectdestination, especially in May!,” it added.
Governor Al Francis Bichara initiated the Magayon Festival in 1999 which was the “the first month-long festival” in the country that focused on what the province has to offer.
“Since the celebration is in the month of May, when school is out, many tourists join the festivities. This has helped in the growth and development of Albay,” said the governor earlier.
“Magayon” means “beautiful” in the Bikol language, and according to the Bichara, the name was used for the festival to highlight the beauty of Albay, especially Mayon Volcano.
