Rep. Velasco’s bills promoting ecotourism in Marinduque hurdle House tourism panel
Three bills promoting ecotourism in the Province of Marinduque, all authored by Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, have successfully hurdled the House committee on tourism last week.
Last May 23, the House committee on tourism passed House Bills 7022, 7023 and 7024, which all aimed to conserve and develop the Municipality of Sta. Cruz, Torrijos White Beach and Luzon Datum into Ecotourism areas.
“Ecotourism projects are meant to create attractive tourist destinations without depreciating the environment and nature,” Rep. Velasco said in a statement.
Marinduque Rep. Velasco endorsed the measures by presenting a tourism video showcasing the wonders and beauty of his province of Marinduque.
Present during the hearing were Tourism committee members, resource persons as well as other observers.
“The video was able to highlight the unlimited potential of his province and this country to become a top tourist destinations,” said Velasco.
After the presentation, the tourism committee, headed by Rep. Lucy Torres Gomez, approved the bills.
“At a time when environmental protection and conservation are at the forefront of global issues, these legislative measures are very timely and are helpful reminders of the importance of nature. Ecotourism projects will certainly address the need to observe sustainable development and the protection of the environment,” said Velasco.
