Albay Gov. Bichara eyes withdrawal of support to barangay execs included in PDEA’s narco-list

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara has acted on the narco-list released recently by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) which contained names of several barangay captains and kagawads in the province.

Bichara met yesterday with members of the Peace and order and Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council to discuss the narco-list issued by PDEA as ordered by President Rodrigo Duterte.

“The narco-list, a validated list composed by PDEA of barangay officials implicated in the drug-trade, listed several barangay captains and kagawads in the Province of Albay,” said the province.

Governor Bichara suggested and proposed during the meeting to the local chief executives that “they withdraw their support for these local village officials included in the list.”

“We need to support the direction of our President, we should withdraw our support from these barangay officials so that we would remove any bad elements from the list of leaders in Albay,” the Governor was quoted as saying.

Bichara added that he doesn’t want Albay to be a province that coddles drug users and drug peddlers.

Bichara added that the withdrawal of the support means a solid statement against drug abuse and drug trade.

“However, he also said that another meeting with DOH, DILG, PNP, and other concerned officials shall be conducted to further discuss the measures that must be done and give time for the Mayors to seek all angles regarding the drug issue of the listed barangay officials,” said the province.
