Palawan Capitol joins commemoration of province’s 73rd liberation anniversary

The Provincial Capitol has joined the commemoration of the 73rd anniversary of the Liberation of Palawan by recognizing the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the province’s freedom.

“Ilan sa mga isiginawang aktibidad noong ika-22 ng Abril ay ang pag-aalay ng bulaklak sa bantayog ni Gov. Higinio Mendoza sa Mendoza Park na sinundan ng Civil/Military Parade mula sa Mendoza Park na nagtapos sa Plaza Cuartel kung saan muling nag-alay ng bulaklak para naman sa mga beteranong Pilipino at Amerikano,” said the province.

“Pagkatapos nito ay isinagawa ang paglulunsad ng photo wall at pagtatanim ng puno ng Balayong sa Puerto Princesa International Airport,” it added.

Col. Kazunobu Akutsu, military attaché of the Japanese Embassy, was present during the event to show sympathy and respect to the fallen heroes during the World War II.

“Tinuran din niya na walang ibang nais ang kanilang bansa kundi ang ipagpatuloy ang pagkakaroon ng kapayapaan sa mga kalapit bansa nito,” said the province.

Moreover, 21 veterans were hailed during the event.

They are: 2Lt. Daniel Clark, 2Lt. Timoteo Favila, TSgt. Francisco Almonte, TSgt. Jorge Macolor, Sgt. Agustin Paduga, Sgt. Ramon Sandoval, Cpl. Domingo Contreras, Cpl. Jose San Juan, Pfc. Eusebio Raban, Pfc. Pantaleon Rollan, Pvt. Exequiel Arzaga, Pvt. Alejandro Batul, Pvt. Domingo Dongalus, Pvt. Turiano Lagan, Pvt. Teodoro Lagrada, Pvt. Patricio Macolor, Pvt. David Magora, Pvt. Lucrecio Nacasi, Pvt. Alfredo Palarca, and Pvt. Eugenio Pa-ala.

Also awarded were TSgt. Benjamin Sparks, MM1C Earl Vance Wilson, and Pfc. Seldon White, two American veterans who fought for the freedom of Palawan.
