P324-M Lisap Bridge seen to boost economic activity in Oriental Mindoro, says DPWH
The newly inaugurated Lisap Bridge in Oriental Mindoro is expected to “increase economic activity” in the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways said.
The Lisap Bridge costs P324 million and the longest bridge in Oriental Mindoro with a length of 365 lineal meters and approaches of 175 lineal meters.
President Rodrigo R. Duterte and DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar recently led the formal opening of Lisap Bridge along Calapan South Road in Barangay Hagan in the town of Bongabong.
The department said that motorists traveling to the southernmost part of Oriental Mindoro are now reaping the benefits of the new permanent bridge.
“In long term, the new Lisap Bridge is expected to improve mobility, gradually increasing economic activities brought about by the flourishing tourism and agriculture in the area,” the DPWH said in a statement.
“Lisap Bridge was constructed on a higher elevation and with wider lanes designed for a safer and reliable bridge transport replaces the old Bailey bridge,” added the department.
DPWH Secretary Villar said the newly-built P324-million bridge with now serves as a primary route from the municipality of Bongabong to Roxas, bypassing the lengthy circumferential road.
“With this new Lisap Bridge, motorists won’t have to endure passing through a long circumferential road nor riding small boats or rafts to cross the dangerous Bongabong River just to reach this innermost part of Bongabong town,” said Sec. Villar.
