The Albay province has received a total of P25-million assistance from President Rodrigo R. Duterte and from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Offce (PCSO) to sustain the needs of more than 84,000 evacuees.

President Duterte visited the province yesterday, January 29, where he was briefed by Governor Al Francis Bichara on the Mayon Volcano eruption.

President Duterte gave P20 million to the province and pledged to add additional P50 million to help the province rehabilitate as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office also gave P5 million assistance to the Province of Albay for its Disaster relief Operations.

Bichara reported to the President the status of affected areas in Albay, as well as the number of evacuation centers and evacuees.

“The governor also talked about health updates, medicine distribution, health issues, water supply concerns, agriculture and veterinary updates, donations, effects on classes, and the sustainability of current interventions,” the province said.

For Bichara, the main concern is that if the volcanic eruption lasts for three months,
“the provincial, city, and municipal governments in Albay will need additional funds to sustain the needs of the evacuees.”

The President also said that he will send portalets to Albay to maintain good hygiene in evacuation centers.

Alert level 4 remains in effect over Mayon. As of January 29, 21,880 families or a total of 84,399 individuals have fled their homes due to the eruptive activities of the volcano.
