Albay province kicks off preparation for 2018 Magayon Festival

The province of Albay has already started its preparation for the month-long celebration of the Magayon Festival to be held in May.
Almost four months before the official kick-off the festival, the tourism office of the Albay Provincial Government held a meeting for the preparation of the event.
The province said thus year’s Magayon Festival will be more “extravagant” and will be loaded with lots of surprises.
Mrs. Dorothy Colle, head of the Albay Tourism Department, called the said planning held at the Governor’s Conference room at the Provincial Capitol.
“Magayon Festival is one of the most Prestigious festivals here in Albay,” The province said.
“… [T]he department head of Tourism office Mrs. Dorothy Colle called for a meeting to talk about the Planning, distribution of tasks and budgeting to make this year Magayon Festival extra special, extravagant and more surprises,” the provincial government added.
The month-long Magayon Festival will start on May 1. The festival began in 1999 under the leadership of Governor Al Francis Bichara.
The said Festival aimed at introducing to the world the beauty of Albay as well as to boost the province’s tourism economy.
The first name of the event was Karangahan Festival and was later on renamed to Magayon Festival in honor of the majestic Mayon Volcano nestled in the province the the Legend of Daragang Magayon.
