Virac,Catanduanes suspends classes in all levels tomorrow due to inclement weather brought by Agaton

The Municipality of Virac, Catanduanes has ordered the suspension of classes in all levels tomorrow, January 3, due to inclement weather brought by tail-end of a cold front and Tropical Depression Agaton.

Virac Mayor Samuel Laynes issued a memorandum today ordering the cancellation of classes as a “precautionary measure” against heavy rains.

“In view of the continuing inlcement weather brought about by tail-end of a cold front affecting eastern section of Southern Luzon that brought light to moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall over Bicol Region and triggered by the trough of Tropical Depression Agaton, to ensure the safety of the populace in the entire locality, especially school children and students, classes in public and private schools in all levels in the municipality of Virac are hereby suspended tomorrow,” the memorandum read.

The mayor said that the order serves as precautionary measures to heavy rains, and possible landslides to low-lying areas and those living in riverbanks and landslide-prone areas.

Laynes chairs the Municipal Risk Reduction and Management Council of Virac.

According to the latest weather bulletin of PAG-ASA, moderate to heavy rains is expected over the areas under tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 as well as Bicol Region, Samar provinces, Southern Quezon, Panay Island and the rest of MIMAROPA.

“Residents of these areas must undertake precautionary measures against possible flooding and landslides and coordinate with their respective local disaster risk reduction and management offices,” the PAGASA said.

“Sea travel is risky over the areas under TCWS #1 and the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon, eastern seaboard of Central Luzon, eastern and western seaboards of Visayas, and eastern seaboard of Mindanao due to the surge of Northeast Monsoon and TD “AGATON,” the state weather bureau said.

TD Agaton is expected to make landfall in Palawan tonight.
