Pinabayaan lang: Sorsogon mayor De Castro faces raps over contractor’s boo-boos


Bulan, Sorsogon Mayor Helen De Castro has been charged before the Sandiganbayan with graft for failing to hold liable a contractor for the delay in the installation of a transformer at a bus terminal in 2007.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed the the case after finding probable cause to indict the mayor.

Apart from the mayor, those included as accused are municipal engineer Toby Gonzales Jr. and S.R. Baldon Construction and Supply owner Shirley Baldon.

Meanwhile, the case has already been raffled to the Sandiganbayan 1st Division to handle the charges.

Under the charges, those accused allegedly conspired with one another and gave undue injury to the government when they failed to charge the contractor for damages incurred in its delay.

The Ombudsman pointed out the local officials should have issued an order to deduct from the final payment the amount of P145,770.60 in connection with the delay in the installation of the additional 25kva transformer at a bus terminal.
