Palawan to boost tourism by coming up with a master plan
The Philippine-East Asean Growth Area (P-EAGA) Forum was held recently in Palawan to come up with a tourism master plan for the province.
The forum held in Puerto Princesa was spearheaded by the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), the provincial government of Palawan and the Department of Tourism-MIMAROPA.
“Ang mabubuong master plan ay maglalaman ng Palawan-Sabah Tourism Circuit at nakabatay sa National Tourism Development Plan ng Department of Tourism (DOT) at sa mga inisyatibo ng Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines (BIMP)-EAGA Tourism Cluster,” the provincial government said.
One of the issues discussed was human trafficking which was one of the “problems” arising from the growth of tourism.
“Isa sa mga usaping nabuksan sa isinagawang open forum ay ang patungkol sa human trafficking, na isa sa mga nakikitang kaakibat na problema ng patuloy na pag-unlad ng turismo sa lalawigan lalo na sa pagbubukas ng Buliluyan Port ngayong buwan ng Disyembre,” said the provincial government.
DOT-MIMAROPA Regional Director Danilo Intong said that their department is working alongside with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to address this specific issue.
“Kasama rin sa mga naging usapin ang kahilingan na maisama ang Kalayaan Group of Islands sa mabubuong master plan dahil na rin sa mga tourism potential sites na mayroon dito,” the government said.
Other programs discussed were Twin Destination Marketing and Davao Tourism Profile, Malaysian Market Profile, Philippine Route Development, Palawan Air Connectivity and Philippine Cruise Tourism Development.
