Bicol bishop laments cellphone users during Mass; Respeto naman

A senior Catholic Church official in Bicol reminded his flock to turn off their mobile phones, especially smartphones, during Mass.

Sorsogon Bishop Arturo Bastes lamented many users of smartphones show disrespect by texting or even taking photos while the Mass is ongoing.

“As a pastor, as a bishop I find [smartphones] very useful that we have this because anybody has it anyway. The bad one is to abuse it to use that in the wrong time like during Mass or during religious services,” Bastes, who chairs the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines Episcopal Commission on Mission, said on Church-run Radyo Veritas.

“They have to control themselves,” he added.

Pope Francis himself had voiced opposition to the use of mobile phones during Mass.
