Ombudsman orders suspension of Pili mayor Bongalonta

Pili, Camarines Sur Mayor Tomas Bongalonta, Jr. has been suspended for 90 days over a graft case against him for having dismissed a municipal employee.

The Office of the Ombudsman said the Sandiganbayan 7th Division which is handling his graft case imposed the suspension.

“Once the information is found to be sufficient in form and substance, then the Court must issue the order of suspension as a matter of course. There are no ifs and buts about it,” the court stated in a resolution.

“The presumption is that unless the accused is suspended, he or she may frustrate the prosecution of the case, commit further acts of malfeasance, or do both,” explained the court.

The case stemmed from Bongalonta’s dismissal of municipal employee Eileen Ceron who was only ordered suspended from office by the Ombudsman.
