Kakuntsaba si Joseph Cua? Catanduanes politikos may be involved in mega shabu lab ops- Ace Barbers

Local politikos in Catanduanes may be involved in the operations of the mega shabu laboratory discovered in Virac town as traders or protectors of drug lords, Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said.

Barbers, chair of the House committee on dangerous drugs, made the statement on October 10 after former Virac mayor Flerida Alberto testified that she saw incumbent Virac mayor Samuel Laynes, a certain Alex Ang Hung and Engineer Gil Balmadrid at the vicinity of the mega shabu laboratory before it was raided by the police on November 26, 2017.

“Pauwi po ako. Tinanong ko silang tatlo anong ginagawa niyo dyan, doon sa may daan papuntang shabu lab. Bakit ang lalaki ng truck na dumadaan diyan? Ang sagot lang po nila sa akin yung daan lang po sa kulungan ng baboy,” Alberto said.

Laynes is known to be close to Catanduanes Governor Joseph Cua, who is being linked to the mega shabu laboratory’s operations.

Barbers has threatened to cite Cua and six others in contempt and order their arrest if they do not attend the next hearing.

Cua has snubbed the congressional investigation despite invitations from the House panel.

The six individuals who have yet to appear at the hearing are: Balmadrid, Judge Lelu Contreras, former police regional director Melvin Buenafe, Eric Isidoro and Prince Lim Subion and Lorenzo Piñera.
