87 hurt in sea vessel mishap
Calatrava, Romblon – A number of 87 people were hurt after M/V Maria Matilde ng Montenegro Shipping Lines Inc rammed into Tablas Island in Calatrava, Romblon yesterday morning September 26, 2017.
The sea vessel is on its way to Romblon Port from Odiongan Port to bring passengers reported to be from Batangas.
Cajidiocan SB Member Marvin Ramos who was one of the passengers he was awaken when he heard a loud sound which he thought is an explosion but later confirmed that the passenger boat hit the island.
Ramos said the Chief mate admitted that there has been a failure on the vessels Global Positioning System (GPS).
Among the 251 passengers, 87 were repored hurt due to the impact and were brought to Romblon District Hospital for treatment.
Romblon Police Provincial Office reported an approximate P500,000 worth of damage to the vehicles on board M/V Matilde while total damage due to the incident is yet to be determined.
In talking to the police, the captian of M/V Matilde said that the rain was heavy and there was zero visibility while passengers claimed the weather was just fine when the incident occurred.
The sea craft was able to dock safely at Romblon Port after two hours.
