Red tide alert raised in Palawan, Samar, Masbate
Residents and fisherfolk in Palawan, Samar and Masbate were warned against gathering and eating shellfish there, due to the threat of red tide toxin.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources said shellfish and alamang gathered from these areas are not safe for human consumption.
Areas where red tide toxin is a threat as of July 3 include :
– Puerto Princesa Bay in Palawan
– coastal waters of Mandaon in Masbate
– Irong-Irong Bay in Western Samar
The BFAR said that while fish, squid, shrimps and crabs gathered from these areas are safe for human consumption, they must be fresh and washed thoroughly.
Also, it said their internal organs such as gills and intestines should be removed before cooking.
