Bichara’s Independence Day message will make you think about #Marawi

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara’s advanced Independence Day message on Facebook sounds very timely especially with the ongoing battle for freedom down south.

Bichara, in switching his cover photo, wrote: “We celebrate Independence Day because our heroes fought against those who suppressed our freedom and violated our rights.”

He said that these heroes of past generations “came out victorious because of their courage, passion and love for our country.”

“Our heroes they broke the shackles of abuse, inequality, violence that once terrorized our people, so that we may all enjoy the liberty, dignity, and hope we posses today,” noted the politiko.

For two weeks now, the brave members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) have placed their lives on the line in a bid to free Marawi City from the clutches of the Maute terror group.

It can be recalled that the Maute, which has links to the dreaded ISIS, occupied Marawi last May 23. Almost 200 have been killed in the skirmishes since.

Hopefully, government troops can liberate Marawi residents from this episode of fear and violence soon.
