CamSur solon Bordado sides with Charter on Martial Law talk

Camarines Sur 3rd district Rep. Gabriel Bordado Jr. may be allied with the administration, but that doesn’t mean he will turn his back to the Constitution.

On a Facebook post, the rookie congressman let everyone know that he favored the holding of a joint session between the House of Representatives (HOR) and the Senate in order to tackle President Rodrigo Duterte’s declaration of Martial Law in Mindanao.

“CONSTITUTIONAL MANDATE: I just voted for the convening of both chambers of Congress to tackle the presidential declaration of martial law–AS MANDATED BY THE 1987 CONSTITUTION OF THE PHILIPPINES,” Cong Gabby wrote.

The House leadership, which is composed of staunch Duterte allies, had insisted that a concurrent resolution from the HOR and Senate is needed for such a joint session to occur.

Opposition lawmakers said that the joint session should be mandatory.
