Dioneda to throw hat in Sorsogon mayoralty race?
Sorsogon City Mayor Sally Lee may be looking at not one but two challengers to her seat in 2019.
This, after city Vice Mayor Jonathan Balintong bared that former 1st district provincial board member Eric Dioneda was eyeing the mayoralty post.
Balintong, in a Bicol Today report Monday (May 22), said two-time gubernatorial candidate Dioneda revealed his intentions during the PDP-Laban’s recent Provincial Executive Committee meeting.
Dioneda is the son of late city mayor Leovic Dioneda. Balintong will serve as his running mate.
A few weeks ago, Sorsogon Vice Governor Ester Hamor said she would be vying for Lee’s post in the next local elections. Hamor is a former three-term mayor of Casiguran town.
Balintong in the same report said that Lee’s popularity has been slipping based on the results of the 2016 polls wherein she won by only 1,800 votes.
This supposedly pushed Dioneda to declare his election plans to the party.
