Daet has a growing garbage problem
A stinky problem is brewing in the municipality of Daet, Camarines Norte where a whopping 30 tons of garbage are reportedly collected daily.
Camarines Norte News sourced the figure from the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), which said that the “urban barangays” of Daet alone produce nine to 10 trucks of garbage.
Despite the sheer volume,MENRO chief Ramon Ramos said they are forced to make do with their lone landfill in Barangay Bibirao since no other barangay was willing to provide a dumpsite for the municipality’s refuse.
Because of this, Ramos said that the collected garbage must be paved in daily in the landfill using heavy equipment. Not doing so might result in the landfill’s closure, which would then give the municipal government and even bigger headache.
Ramos hoped that local residents would learn how to segregate their waste since this would help assuage the garbage problem.
