Disaster funds in Juban, Sorsogon spent for repairing patrol cars
The municipal government of Juban in Sorsogon spent P113,452.95 of its Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF) to repair police motor vehicles and to avail of catering services, which were not related to disaster preparedness, state auditors said.
In a 2016 report, the Commission on Audit (COA) said at least P113,452.95 of the LDRRMF was used for the repairs and maintenance of the municipality, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine National Police motor vehicles, as well as for the catering services of the Mini Olympics.
The auditors said the municipality failed to consider a joint circular of the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Department of Budget and Management, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council on the proper use of the LDRRMF for disaster risk reduction and management.
The auditors said the municipality defeated the purpose for which the fund was created.
The COA urged the municipal mayor Antonio Alindogan to observe the requirements of the joint circular in ensuring that the LDRRMF is used strictly for disaster risk reduction and management activities.
The municipality vowed to comply with the audit recommendations.
