Para sa mahihirap: Bravo, Escudero bat for indigents’ cancer assistance fund


Bicolano lawmakers have moved for the establishment of a government assistance fund meant for cancer patients from poor families.

House Bill (HB) no.3441 or the proposed “Indigent Cancer Patients’ Assistance Fund (ICPAF)” was jointly filed by Masbate 1st district Rep. Maria Vida Espinosa Bravo and Sorsogon 1st district Rep. Evelina Escudero.

In the bill’s explanatory note, the lady politiko said noted that cancer ranks as the third highest cause of morbidity and mortality in the Philippines next to communicable diseases and cardiovascular diseases.

“Among the great challenges for the diagnosed with cancer is finding funds to complete the recommended treatment,” they noted.

“This bill seeks to establish an [ICPAF] to support the medicine and treatment needs of indigent and underprivileged cancer patients in the country,” the solons further said.

Should the measure get enacted, the fund will be administered by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth.
