Hindi bilib: Lagman says Duterte’s +64 percent rating has limited scope

Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman on Tuesday (October 11) offered perspective to President Rodrigo Duterte’s +64 percent net satisfaction rating, saying the lofty figure doesn’t reflect his “overall performance”.

The +64 rating, given by the Social Weather Station (SWS), was primarily limited to the anti-drug campaign, Lagman said.

The former House Minority Leader stressed that some key issues were not covered by the independent pollster in its survey.

“No questions were asked on (1) the effects on the nation and the economy of Duterte’s erratic outbursts and provocative tirades; (2) failure to ease the traffic gridlock; and (3) snail-paced implementation of the President’s socio-economic agenda,” he said.

“While the President’s deadly campaign against the drug menace is still highly popular, such degree of popular acceptance is diminished by the 71 percent clamor that suspects must be arrested alive – a clear rebuke of the unabated extrajudicial killings of drug dealers and users,” Lagman pointed out.

Lagman’s group in Congress, the so-called “Magnificent Seven”, has been criticizing the spate of alleged summary executions under the three-month-old Duterte administration.
