For peace efforts: Bicol group asks Du30 to release 100+ elderly political prisoners
Militant groups asked President Rodrigo Duterte to release more than 100 elderly political prisoners as a goodwill gesture in peace efforts with communist rebels.
Hustisya said these include those who need special medical attention, elderly, nursing mothers, and those detained for more than 10 years, Bicol Today reported.
“As the NDFP-GPH peace talks continue, families of political prisoners call on the Duterte government to release political prisoners on humanitarian grounds,” Bicol Today quoted Hustisya chairperson Evangeline Hernandez as saying.
Hustisya added the prisoners should be released “on humanitarian grounds” before it’s too late.
In Bicol, “political prisoners” in Sorsogon called for their freedom and the resumption of the peace talks.
