Suspending LRay will show Congress impartiality–Lagman
Albay 1st district Rep. Edcel Lagman said it would be the best recourse for the House of Representatives (HOR) to enforce the Sandiganbayan’s 90-day preventive suspension order against Camarines Sur 2nd district Rep. LRay Villafuerte.
According to Lagman, House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez can prove to the public that the HOR doesn’t give any preferential treatment to its members by implementing the suspension.
“Palagay ko yan ang mabuting paraan sapagkat hindi naman pwedeng special ang members of Congress,” he said.
The veteran politiko also reminded Alvarez that the Sandiganbayan’s order was directly addressed to the House leadership. “Ang order naman ay directed to the leadership of the House”.
The order specifically read: “Let the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HOR) be furnished with a copy of this Resolution for the implementing of the suspension ordered. The said official or his authorized representative is directed to inform the court in writing of the action taken with regard to the suspension of accused Luis Raymond Villafuerte Jr. within five days of the receipt of this Resolution.”
The Sandiganbayan on Friday handed down a 90-day preventive suspension order against Villafuerte for his alleged anomalous purchase of P20 million worth of fuel from a single proprietor in 2010. No public bidding took place for the transaction.
