Matnog port security tightened in Davao blast aftermath
Repercussions of the “Black Friday” blast in Davao City are being felt in Sorsogon.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Chief Enrico Andal said that authorities have tightened up security at Matnog Port following the night market explosion down south that killed 14 people.
“It’s altogether, ‘Oplan Pwerto’, in drugs and in bombing especially with what happened in Davao City so there’s more restrictions in guarding the port,” Andal was quoted as saying Saturday (September 4) in a Bicol Today report.
The port of Matnog is crucial in that it is a familiar entry point in Luzon going to the Visayas and Mindanao, and back.
Philippine National Police (PNP) personnel and K-9 units are thoroughly inspecting both private and public vehicles entering the port. Law enforcers’ visibility has also been stepped up.
“We are together here in the port of Matnog to inspect vehicles and buses,” Andal said.
