Wasted Bicolano youth: Shabu hooks 625 minors in Bicol


Eighteen grade school children, 234 high school and 74 college students and 299 out-of-school youths.

According to official records, these are the numbers so far of young Bicolanos who have surrendered to authorities after admitting as users of illegal drugs.

“We are saddened by the reports that at early age, those children who are still in their elementary and high school years, have already been hooked on drugs,” said Senior Insp. Ma.Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of Police Regional Office (PRO)-Bicol.

Camarines Sur tops the list with 188 followed by Albay with 170 youth surrenderees, Masbate with 119, Camarines Norte with 79, Naga City with 34, Sorsogon with 12, and Catanduanes with 23 minor drug offenders.

Of the 625 minors, 18 are in the elementary grades, 234 in high school, 74 in college and 299 are from the sector of Out-of-School Youth (OSY), records of PRO-Bicol show.

With this development, local government units have been notified and the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development have issued directives to their LGU counterparts to provide “intervention measures” for the minor-surrenderees.
