Rep. Umali raises awareness for protection of Tamaraws
Oriental Mindoro Rep. Alfonso Umali, Jr. is calling for the protection of Tamaraws, which are now critically endangered.
The lawmaker said that the month of October is a “special time “of remembering the importance of conserving and protecting Tamaraw.
The said celebration is pursuant to the Presidential Proclamation No. 273.
According to the lawmaker, there are less than 500 tamaraws left in Mounts Iglit-Baco National Park, a fraction of what its numbers used to be as of July 2021.
“Let’s raise awareness and together we can conserve the Tamaraws,” he said.
Tamaraw is a mammal that is endemic to Mindoro provinces.
