Gov. Alvarez on 3-in-1 Palawan: I accept the decision of Palawenos
Palawan Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez spoke up once again on the failed bid to split the province into three.
Alvarez said that he was not the one to initially proposed to have Palawan to be divided into three, but he saw the benefits that would have been extended to the Palawenos.
“Hindi ako ang unang nagsulong na gawing tatlong (3) probinsya ang Palawan. Pero nakikita ko ang kabutihan nito sa ating mga kababayan lalo na sa mga nakatira malayo sa Kapitolyo na hirap agad mabigyan ng tulong ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan,” the Governor said.
In March this year, a plebiscite was held regarding the controversial proposal but majority of the Palawenos rejected it.
After the canvassing, 172,304 people voted “no” to the ratification of Republic Act 11259 while 122,223 voted “yes.”
Alvarez meanwhile reiterated that he respects the outcome of the plebiscite.
“Sinabi ko na ito dati pero uulitin ko ulit, hindi man pumabor sa atin ang naging resulta ng Plebesito, MALUWAG KONG TINAGGAP ang naging desisyon ng mga Palaweño,” he said.
