Palawan IATF discusses effects of COVID-19 in local economy
The Palawan Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force has recently convened to discuss the effects of coronavirus disease pandemic on the local economy.
Among the matters being studied by the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) are Economic Impact of COVID-19 in (1) Agriculture, Fishing, and Livestock industries, (2) Industry, and (3) Services in the province..
“Bumaba ng 7.6% ngayong 2020 ang Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) ng MIMAROPA na kung saan nasa 55% ang kontribusyon ng Palawan sa Economic Performance ng rehiyon, ibig sabihin ay apektado at bumaba ang economic status ng lalawigan”, said PPDO’s Engr. Aireen Marcaida.
Based on the 2020 data on Agriculture, Fishing and Livestock industries, the Palawan remains self-sufficient in other primary commodities such as rice, banana, cashew, chicken, pork, and beef.
“Pero bumaba sa target ang ‘volume production’ ng commercial fisheries, municipal fisheries at aquaculture na naapektuhan hindi lamang ng pandemya kundi ng climate change,” the Capitol said.
“Tourism [sector] talaga ang naapektuhan sa Palawan as reflected sa Regional Gross Domestic Account, kaya sana masuportahan natin sila and pati na rin yung MSMEs [Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises] at Agriculture sector ay masuportahan at palakasin natin para muli silang makabangon.”
The Palawan IATF is set to convene next month.
