Victor Perete announces construction of COVID-19 isolation facility in Daraga

DARAGA, Albay – The local government of Daraga and the Department of Public Works and Highways in Albay have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the construction of a health facility container van that will serve as coronavirus disease (Covid-19) isolation and temporary treatment facility.

Mayor Victor Perete, in an interview with the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Thursday, said a health facility will be constructed in Barangay De la Paz with PHP18.5 million project cost.

“As isolation and temporary treatment facility, it will be manned by municipal health personnel. The design of the facility is different from the normal construction of building. The construction period of health facility container van will only take at least two to three weeks or less,” he added.

Perete added that based on the project development, there are 24 rooms (with four beds each), fully air-conditioned, with separate medical stations, and sleeping areas for health personnel.

Perete also said the project is only the first phase and he will still ask for another so that they can accommodate everyone including the upcoming locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who must go under 14 days quarantine and those who have been exposed to infected cases.

“I already requested the DPWH through Cong. Joey Salceda for another facility because our current isolation or quarantine facilities can no longer suffice the needed number of Covid-19-related clients, particularly those with direct exposures to positive and arriving individuals from different provinces, particularly those from Metro Manila,” Perete added.

Since March to August 15, there were 48 Covid-19 positive cases in the municipality of Daraga. (PNA)
