Wag na barrier! Palawan BM proposes to just use helmets, face masks for motorcycle backriding
A Palawan Board Member has proposed the mandatory use of helmet and face mask for motorcycle passengers who ride on pillion instead of putting barriers.
Board Member Ryan Maminta filed a resolution urging the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) to consider the use of helmet and face mask instead of barriers as proposed by the national government.
BM Maminta sadi that barriers are not safe for motorcycle riders.
“We are very grateful to the National IATF-EID for lifting the ban on the backriding. However, seeing the situation here in the Province of Palawan, wherein the majority of our constituents are motorcycle riders going to and from to their works or homes, nakikita po natin na parang mas akma na instead of putting a barrier that will cost certain amount of P1,000-P2,000 and with some safety concerns on putting up the barriers on the motorcycle, baka pwedeng ma-consider ng National IATF, baka pwedeng i-allow ang backrider using helmet with face mask… ” BM Maminta said.
He also said that barriers are no longer needed since only couples are allowed to ride on pillion.
“It is dangerous and inconvenient para sa ating mga motorista, dahil maari pa itong magdulot ng disgrasya, delikado yung prototype na gusto nilang ilagay…”, said BM Ponce de Leon.
