Establishment of portable hand washing facilities in Palawan public areas pushed
The Philippine Red Cross in Palawan has proposed to establish portable hand washing facilities in public areas in the province.
The PRC-Palawan proposed the project to the members of the Emergency Operation Center of the provincial government last April 22.
Agnes Beronio, Officer-In-Charge ng Philippine Red Cross-Palawan Chapter, highlighted the importance of said facilities in order to prevent hygiene-related diseases.
“Ang main objectives nito is to raise awareness sa community on healthy lifestyle and to prevent the spread of hygiene-related disease,” said Beronio.
“Ang strategic area para doon ay yung mga public market, holding areas, ports, hospitals, RHU at ilan pang public places… ” added the PRC official.
The portable hand washing facility is made up of steel, withbuilt-in water tank and faucet and it is foot-operated.
The proposal gained support from the Palawan Provincial Health Office.
“This is a very good idea, ideally marami pa dapat na hand washing facility ang ma-establish natin especially sa mga municipalities and markets… Kasi that’s our primary defense against Coronavirus…”, Dr. Mary Ann Navarro, Provincial Health Office, said.
The PRC has already built portable hand washing facility at the Old market, New Market, NFA Provincial Office, Ospital ng Palawan, Coron District Hospital, Coron Rural Health Unit, Bataraza RHU, Brgy. Isaub, Brgy. Plaridel, Aborlan Market, San Vicente RHU, Taytay RHU and Brooke’s Point.
