Marinduque Rep. Velasco denies ‘coup plans’ to unseat Speaker Cayetano
Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco has denied any ouster plot against House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.
Velasco, who has a term-sharing agreement with Cayetano as House speaker, said that he issued a statement to end any “baseless report” on the supposed “ouster plan” against the incumbent House leader.
He said that those reports are “being peddled by certain camps with vested interests within and outside the halls of Congress.”
“To my kababayans, these reports are far from the truth. The reports were meant to create deep division within the House of Representatives and its members, destroy camaraderie, distract lawmakers from fulfilling their mandate, and more importantly, derail the key legislative agenda of the Duterte Administration,” he said.
Velasco said that he still honors the gentleman’s agreement he had with Cayetano at the start of the 18th Congress.
“Up to this day, I continue to honor the term-sharing agreement brokered by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte when the 18th Congress convened in July 2019,” he said.
“From the beginning, I never had any intention of reneging on this agreement. Tayo po ay lalaking may isang salita.”
Velasco also urged his colleagues to continue to do their mandate “to serve our constituency and provide services to people who elected us into office.”
“Our people deserve to enjoy the fruits of progress under President Duterte,” he said.
