Palawan officials explains political reasons behind move to split province into 3

Palawan Provincial Information Officer Winston G. Arzaga explained the political reasons behind the move to divide the province into three.

“Ito ay matapos na may mabasa umano siyang post sa social media na tila mali ang pagkakarinig at nagbigay pa ng kung anu-ano at mali-maling interpretasyon,” the Capitol said.

Under the new law, the province will be divided into Palawan Del Sur, Palawan Del Norte and Palawan Oriental.

“Ayon kay Arzaga, ang pagbuo ng tatlong Lalawigan ay napakahalagang political decision ng ating mga lider dahil mababawasan nito ang kanilang napakalakas na kapangyarihan na pamunuan ang isang centralized government,” the province said.

Arzaga said that by splitting the province, the power of the governor was difused.

“Very powerful ang Gobernador ngayon [Gobernador Jose Cha. Alvarez], ang ginawa niya by creating three provinces, dinifuse niya, kinascade niya, binigay niya sa tatlong growth centers, sa tatlong political power centers, instead na isang gobernador magiging tatlong gobernador, so yung decision na yan essentially a political decision ‘yung pagbabawas ng poder, pagdidistribute ng kapangyarihan, pagkacascade ng power and responsilibility is a political act ng leadership”, he said.

He said that those who oppose the proposal do not understand the structure of the new provinces.

“Pagsinabing political reason nagre-structure ka ng government machinery, restructuring bureaucracy into three bureaucracies that is a political decision” he said..

“Consequently pagnag-difuse ka ng power gumawa ka ng panibagong growth centers, kasi ung political power na yan attracts economic activities kasi tatlo na ang kapitolyo mo ay mayroon nang convergence diyan of business, economic lahat-lahat nandiyan na” he added.
