The Mahal na Pangalan has been launched as the newest Marine Protected Area in Calapan City.

The Mahal na Pangalan became an MAP thru the City Ordinance No. 52- 2019 of the “An Ordinance Declaring and Establishing the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the Territorial Jurisdiction of the City of Calapan and Providing for a Comprehensive Development, Conservation Management and Operation of the Same.”

Vice Mayor Gil G. Ramirez said that with the declaration, fisherfolk in the area will be given attention that they need.

“Noon aniyang una siyang naging Konsehal at ibinigay sa kanya ang Committee on Environmental Protection ay sinimulan na niya ang pagtatanim ng punong bakawan katuwang ang taong barangay,” the Sangguniang Panlungsod said.

Ramirez said that he will visit the mangroves they planted in the area.

“Kaakibat nito rin ang kanyang puso sa tuwa na naging bahagi siya ng proyektong ito. Bukod sa pakinabang nito sa komunidad ay ginawa pa itong park ngayon na magbibigay ng dagdag na atraksyon. Ang naturang MPA ay nagsisilbing kanlungan ng mga isda, semilya at yamang-dagat,” said tge SP.

The residents meanwhile expressed their gratitude to Mayor Arnan C. Panaligan for approving the ordinance.
