Vice Governor Lagman welcomes Israel ambassador in Albay
Albay Vice Governor Edcel Lagman has welcomed the Israel’s top diplomat to the Philippines at the Provincial Capitol.
Provincial Administrator Vida Prollamante joined the vice governor in welcoming Israel’s Ambassador to the Philippines His Excellency Rafael Harpaz.
“On behalf of Gov. Al Francis Bichara, I welcomed Israel’s Ambassador to the Philippines, His Excellency Rafael Harpaz at the Dignitaries Hall, Albay Capitol,” said Lagman.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Tourism and Cultural Office (PTCAO) prepared merienda and simple giveaways to the ambassador.
“Not many Albayanos know that Govi was once Philippine Ambassador to Lebanon and Syria. This is the reason why he has always been interested in developing Albay’s ties with foreign countries like Israel who has always offered to modernize agriculture in Albay as well as help the province come up with innovative irrigation systems,” said Lagman.
“Israel has also given out scholarships to Bicol University students and faculty. Fewer people also know that my first job at age 21 was that of Assistant Press Officer of our Embassy in Washington, D.C., USA. Thus my interest in welcoming foreign dignitaries,” he added.
He also gave two reasons why Israel is always ready to help the Philippines, namely:
1. President Manuel L. Quezon opened our country’s doors to Israeli refugees in the 1930s;
2. President Manuel Roxas actively pursued a foreign policy favoring the carving out of a territory for Israel in Palestine in its quest for nationhood.
