Don’t panic, no tsunami is coming, says Calapan Mayor Arnan Panaligan
Amid the worry over the eruption of Taal Volcano, Calapan Mayor Arnan Panaligan sought to assure his constituents that they don’t need to fear a catastrophe from a tsunami.
A post on Panaligan’s Facebook page said there was no tsunami alert for Calapan City and for the whole of Oriental Mindoro, as per the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The post appealed to people not to post and spread unconfirmed claims on social media that would only cause people to panic.
While people should be on alert and should be careful, they should also be responsible about sharing wrong information, it said.
At this point, there’s no need to suspend classes and to panic.
HUWAG MAG PANIC AT MAG ANTABAY SA MGA OPISYAL NA PAHAYAG,” Panaligan’s Facebook page posted.
