Legazpi bishop asks priests to open churches for ‘Tisoy’ evacuees
The Diocese of Legazpi on Monday urged parish priests to open their churches to evacuees who may be affected by Typhoon Tisoy (international name Kammuri).
“I am requesting you to open our parish churches/pastoral halls for evacuees. For those parishes near to the designated evac centers like schools etc., kindly offer your parish/public restrooms for the use of our brothers and sisters in the evacuation centers,” Legazpi Bishop Joel Baylon said in a Facebook post.
The Catholic prelate also urged members of the clergy to help the government in its efforts to provide shelter to those who will be affected by the typhoon.
“As we continue to pray the Oratio Imperata, lets us also join our (government) agencies especially those in-charge of disaster risk reduction and management in helping our parishioners to be safe,” Baylon said.
Last Friday, he asked the faithful to pray the Oratio Imperata (Prayer for Deliverance from Inclement Weather & Other Natural Calamities).
Tisoy is expected to make landfall over Catanduanes, Albay or Sorsogon between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
The typhoon packs maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 185 kph, with several areas placed under Signal No. 3, while Metro Manila is already under Signal No. 2, among others.
