CamSur Rep. Villafuerte: Reduce private cars presence on EDSA instead of running after provincial buses
Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte said that the government should find ways to reduce the presence of private cars on EDSA instead of focusing on provincial buses.
Villafuerte earlier attended the Senate hearing on the controversial total provincial bus ban policy on EDSA by the MMDA where he voiced out his opposition to the policy.
“Let’s all work together to decongest traffic in EDSA and Metro Manila but not at the expense of the commuting public from the provinces,” said Villafuerte.
“We can implement the plan when all the infrastructure of an alternative and efficient public inter modal transport terminal exchanges are in place already,” he added.
The CamSur solon said that reducing the private cars’ presence on EDSA will decongest the traffic in the major thoroughfare.
“Let’s think of ways to limit the presence of private vehicles in EDSA and not focus on ordinary people who use the provincial buses daily,” he said.
“Over 250,000 private vehicles pass through edsa daily as against only less than 4000 provincial buses,” added Villafuerte.
The CamSur solon earlier expressed his opposition to the policy calling it an “anti-poor” policy.
“My stand is this ban, with all due respect, is anti-poor and kawawa ang taumbayan lalo na sa mga taga-probinsiya,” Villafuerte has said.
A local Quezon Court has already issued a temporary restraining order enjoining the MMDA from implementing the policy.
