Albay SP approves resolution expressing opposition to MMDA’s total provincial bus ban on EDSA
Albay Vice Governor Edcel Grex Lagman is not backing down in his strong stance against the total provincial bus ban of the MMDA on EDSA.
The Vice Governor spearheaded the passage of a resolution at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan expressing the province’s “resounding no” to the controversial policy.
“The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Albay has just registered its resounding NO to the provincial bus ban that is scheduled to be implemented this August,” Lagman said.
“I hope the other provincial and local legislative councils in the Bicol Region share the same sentiment and follow suit accordingly.”
The Vice Governor said that Bicolanos should have a unified voice in this issue “[s]o that ours would be a voice that policymakers have to listen to.”
Lagman earlier lamented the imposition of total provincial bus ban on EDSA by the MMDA, calling it a “cruel” punishment.
“The ban on provincial buses by the LTFRB next month is a cruel and unusual punishment on commuters coming from the Bicol region,” said Lagman.
Lagman also said that the policy is not just “cruel” but also “plainly stupid” saying that MMDA must go after private vehicles and support mass transit instead.
“Akala ko ba yung bus ban sa metro manila is to alleviate vehicular traffic along EDSA? Hindi lang pala ito cruel and unusual punishment. It’s also plainly stupid,” he added.
“Gusto ninyo mabawasan ang traffic, i-ban ng MMDA ang pribadong mga sasakyan. Ang bus na lang ang natatanging “mass transit” tapos tatanggalin nyo pa?!?!”
