Think of the farmers, says Albay Rep. Joey Salceda
Albay Rep. Joey Salceda has sounded the alarm on the dismal future that awaits Philippine farmers.
Salceda, in a Facebook post, warned that the average farm gate price of palay has gone down to P17.85 a kilo in the last week of June, which is down 16.51 percent from the prices last year.
This means the government should be decisive in modernizing farming and in making farmers competitive, he said.
Farmers feed the country, so all efforts should go toward helping them.
Remember, without them, we won’t have extra rice!
“The government should be decisive in modernizing farming and making farmers competitive. Based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s weekly price monitoring report, the average farm-gate price of palay has declined anew to P17.85 a kilogram as of the fourth week of June, down 16.51 percent from year-ago prices,” Salceda posted.
