Lagman twits Lacson: No President deserves to rule for life
Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman did not react positively to Sen. Ping Lacson’s post on Twitter suggesting, tongue in cheek, that President Rodrigo Duterte “deserves to be president for life” if he solves the traffic problem and flight delays.
“No President of a republican democracy deserves to rule for life,” Lagman said in a statement.
“Even the 1987 Constitution limits an elected President to one term of six years,” noted the Magnificent 7 leader.
Lagman said Lacson was “certainly joking” when he made the tweet.
“If PRRD delivers on just these two promises, (1) to cut travel time from Cubao to Makati to 5 minutes within 6 months and; (2) to eliminate flight delays in NAIA within one month, for being superhuman, he deserves to be president for life,” Lacson said in the tweet.
Lagman said that even if Lacson performed so well as a senator, he couldn’t serve more than two consecutive terms.
“In the same manner, Lacson cannot serve as Senator for more than the prescribed term limit even if he continues to be the watchdog of ‘pork barrel’,” he said.
Duterte earlier said a solution to the traffic mess might be in sight.
“You just wait. Ayaw ko mag-ano but things will improve; maybe, God willing [in] December, smooth sailing na,” he said. “You don’t have to worry about traffic. Cubao and Makati is just about five minutes away,” he added.
He also pledged to do something about flight delays at the congested Naia terminals.
