Sorsogon governor-elect Escudero admires ex-Ombudsman Morales’ courage, grace
Sorsogon Governor-elect Francis “Chiz” Escudero said that he admires the courage and grace of former Supreme Court Associate Justice and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales.
“I may not always agree with her, but I cannot help but admire the courage & grace of Former SC Justice & Former Ombudsman Conchita Morales,” Escudero said.
Morales was with her family traveling to Hong Kong last Tuesday when she was denied entry by their immigration.
The feisty former Ombudsman said that she was neither awe nor shocked with the experience, but admitted she was irked with it.
“I think someone came up with the theory that shocked and awe daw. Hindi naman ako nasho-shock; hindi naman ako naa-awe. Nabubwisit lang,” Morales has said.
Escudero said that despite the fiasco, Morales remained composed.
“Even under difficult circumstances, she remained composed, magnanimous & exuded a lot of wisdom with her spoken words. Kudos to you ma’am,” said Escudero.
The outgoing senator earlier said that the incident should serve as wakeup call for the Department of Foreign Affairs.
“I consider what happened to Former Ombudsman Morales as a wake up call because, for me, providing assistance & clarifying all denials of entry imposed by any State on any Filipino is part of the DFA’s job of protecting/defending our nationals especially when they are abroad,” Escudero said.
