Palawan gov’t recognizes Palaweño WWII heroes

Palawan Vice Governor Dennis Socrates has led the awarding ceremony for the three Palaweño veterans who fought against Japanese forces during the World War II.

The Palawan provincial government recognized the heroism of Pvt.Francisco Peria 2nd Lt. Alberto Sandoval and Sgt. Alfredo Sandoval. The ceremony was held in Cuyo, Palawan.

Aside from Socrates, also present during the ceremony were Mayor Andrew L. Ong, several officials of Cuyo LGU as well as the members of Palawan Liberation Task Force

The award was received by the relatives of the World War II heroes.

“Samantala, binigyang parangal din ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Palawan si Pvt. Delfin Dalonos sa bayan ng Coron Palawan, kasabay nito ang pagbubukas (unveiling) at pagdedeklara sa ilang mga lugar bilang Historical sites kung saan lumubog ang labing isang barko ng hapon sa Coron at Busuanga Palawan,” said the provincial government.

“Sa tala ng kasaysayan ng Palawan, ang kasalukuyang Puerto Princesa City baywalk ang siyang ginamit na sea plane base ng mga sundalong hapones at amerikano noong WWII. Ang plaza Cuartel naman ang minarkahan bilang lugar na kung saan minasaker ang mahigit isang daang bihag na sundalong amerikano. Labing isa sa mga ito ang pinalad na makatakas at nagkanlong sa Iwahig sa tulong ng mga lokal na residente,” it added.
